Brain training (or cognitive training) is the training and development of foundation cognitive skills necessary for academic performance.
Instead of tutoring or training at the skill level (reading/writing/math), brain training starts at the foundation of cognitive skills. This process builds neural pathways which unlock academic performance for children. Since children's brains are more plastic ("neural plasticity") than an adults, their brain can learn and build new neural pathways at a fast rate. In order to rewire the brain, it takes repetition and consistency at home and in the clinic. Results can be seen within a month and extensive changes can be seen in two - six months.
Brain training is actually a process that occupational therapists have been doing for decades. It is the use of skilled therapies and technologies that rewire the brain for optimal performance in all domain areas. Along with skilled therapy, we also use research based technologies, such as Neurofeedback and Interactive Metronome, to help clients reach particular goals in timing, fluency, processing speed, impulse control and coordination. We use certified and licensed occupational and speech therapists to provide treatment. This also means that your program can be reimbursed by a HSA, Flexible Spending Account or often by your insurance benefits.
