As part of our Enrichment Programming, Learning Charms offers fun, creative, and multi-sensory children’s classes with a focus on quality and unique opportunities for children. Each program was
developed by the founder of Learning Charms who is a pediatric occupational therapist. The class curriculum was created on evidence based techniques and principles.
Each class will enrich your child's development by inspiring curiosity, increasing motivation, building self-confidence and optimizing motor, sensory, and language skills. Our expertise in child development has enabled us to design unique, exciting, and high-quality enrichment classes that provide a strong developmental foundation that all young children need to succeed.

We have partnered with Toys & Co. to bring you the best developmental toys for our classes! Each week we will be sampling great new toys and oldies but goodies that Toys & Co. will be providing. Read more about our partnership.

To sign up for a class: Please complete class enrollment to us by email or fax (980-229-4642). If you are using a LivingSocial voucher, please list the number on your enrollment. We fill class on first come, first serve basis. We welcome any caregiver (Dads, Nannies, Grandparents) to bring the child to class. After we receive your enrollment form, we will contact you regarding payment. You may also sign up on line. Thank you!

Notes about Monthly Tuition: After you pay your first month's tuition, your credit card will be charged at the beginning of each month for the amount of monthly tuition. The tuition is reflective of the total semester cost divided up in monthly payments. Families that decide not to continue the full semester will not be charged the remainder of the balance. If you decide to discontinue during the semester, you MUST inform us by email a week prior to the first of the month. Past payments cannot be refunded. Questions?

Baby Sensory Smart 45 minute class Mommy & Me class for newborns to learning to walk. This class focuses on your baby's sensory development. Ever wonder how much stimulation is enough? Too much? Each week your baby will be exposed to new sensory and motor development experiences that are especially important during his/her first year. Each class has a balance between group activities as well as individual time for Mommy and baby to explore the sensory stations and toys of the week. Sensory stations include age appropriate sensory motor activities such as jumpers, activity tables, activity mats, fine motor toys, and ball pits. Activities change from week to week. Parents will also learn helpful tips on development, soothing, and sleeping strategies. Sample sensory group activities include: bubbles, rolling on balls, music, bye bye rides in dishpans, crawling and stepping on multi-textured fabric, parachute, ball pit, feeling play dough, group ride on "hot dog", shaking variety of music makers, smelling / tasting / touching jello, flashlight boogie, & moving through tunnels. |
Toddler Sensory Smart (Mixed Ages) 45 minute class Mommy & Me class for mixed ages best for steady walkers -3 years This mixed age class focuses on your child's sensory development with extra attention to movement needs. Each week your child will be exposed to multiple sensory experiences in a collaborative group setting, and then we will move to the large sensory gym, where the child and parent can explore on their own, or with new friends. Parents will also learn helpful tips on development and will be exposed to new toys as well as how to make their own fun toys. The sensory gym will offer ample opportunities for movement challenges including: balance beams, trampoline, crashing into the ball pit, swinging and spinning in our "bird nest", and stepping across the stones without falling into the alligator pit. Sample activities from the structured sensory setting include: finding hidden objects in large sock without using eyes, making cookie cut outs from scented play dough, drawing on our large chalkboard using wet chalk, matching and naming scents from our scent basket, hiding under group parachute, and catching and popping scented bubbles. |
Doodlecharms I (Pre-handwriting/Fine Motor/Art/Gym)
45 minute class. Parent & child participation class for toddlers 1.5-2.5 years.
Toddlers will participate in a multitude of sensory-motor activities that will help to build a strong foundation for fine motor skills. By squishing, sculpting, pushing, pulling and creating, toddlers will have fun while engaging in activities that will improve body awareness, upper body muscle strength and development of their hands and arms. Think feeding a monster crinkle cookies and searching for treasure in our rice and bean bin. Classes vary week to week. Parents will also learn helpful tips on development. First 20 minutes is a mixture of structured and free time in our gross motor gym with rest of time designated for art and fine motor activities. Children should wear play clothes.
Doodlecharms II
45 minute class. Parent & child participation class for toddlers 2.5 - 3.5 years. Doodlecharms II will build upon the skills developed in Doodlecharms I while expanding their fine motor play, introducing age appropriate tools, and pre-writing shapes. By tearing, twisting, stringing and snipping, toddlers will build confidence and explore their creative side while creating multi-step art and craft projects. Toddlers will gain skills in using age-appropriate tools, such as scissors, crayons, stamps and tongs. Classes will also help children to learn to develop dominant hand use, age appropriate tool grasp, and helper hand use. Classes vary week to week and help to facilitate toddler participation in class settings. Parents will also learn helpful tips on development. 45 minute class. First 20 minutes is mixture of structured and free time in our gross motor gym with rest of time designated for art and fine motor activities. Children should wear play clothes. |
Doodlecharms III
1 hour class. Parent (optional) & child participation class for kids aged 3.5-4.5 years. Limited to 8 children. This class is categorized under our Group Handwriting Classes. Have a child that loves writing letters and numbers already? Why not learn the right way?! Doodlecharms III will build on the skills developed in the Doodlecharms II while expanding their pre-handwriting skills to introduce age appropriate and advanced developmental learning for building letters of the alphabet, crayon grasp, building / writing first name, self drawings (representational drawings), and fine motor control. This class is more academic and developmental than previous classes as we will be preparing the child for future kindergarten demands. Each learner will build confidence as he/she progresses at own pace while enjoying art, crafts, music, and movement. Parents will also learn helpful tips on development. Class will utilize strategies from “Handwriting Without Tears” p/k and kindergarten curriculum and Toni Shulken's "Writing Fundamentals" program. These programs are utilized by many local private schools to teach handwriting, such as Providence Day, Charlotte Country Day, Charlotte Latin, Saint Patrick Catholic, Trinity Episcopal, and Charlotte Christian School. Participants will be have their own Handwriting book, with some occasional fun "homework" to reinforce skills. Classes vary week to week. 1-hour class. First 25 minutes is structured gross motor play in the gym, followed by 35 minutes of skills class. **Parents have the option to attend class or not, as appropriate for child's independence and direction following level. Parents who separate from their children must return to the class no later than 10 minutes before class end. In order for parents to separate from children, the child MUST be potty trained. Parents may choose a payment plan to pay $128.00/month. In addition, there is a one time $10.00 workbook fee for the semester. Children should plan to attend the entire semester in order to have maximum benefits. |
DoodleCharms IV (formerly "Going to Kindergarten Club")

1 hour drop off class for children aged 4.5-5.5 years old. Limited to 9 children.

Who: for rising kindergarten kids (ages 4.5-5.5). Class is limited to 9 children. The club is targeted at gifted learners who are academically ready for a kindergarten leveled challenges.
What: Club is a fun and unique way to enrich child's skills and interest in fine motor and handwriting prior to the kindergarten year. We work on fundamental motor skills as well as advanced handwriting skills to optimize preparation for kindergarten. This is also a great way to extend a child's preschool day to prepare them for kindergarten. Club is led by occupational therapist and has a 3:1 student to teacher ratio.
When: Clubs meet once a week for one hour. Club is a drop off class (these are big kids now!).
How much: Monthly tuition: $128, plus one time $10 workbook fee
Skills addressed: proper pencil/crayon grasp, gross motor coordination, fine motor coordination, refinement of scissor use, formal handwriting program (“Handwriting Without Tears”—homework in book each week), coloring in the lines, recognition of letters (UC/LC) and numbers, building and writing letters, numbers and name, zipping, steps for tying shoes (insert parent cheers!), managing book bag, social games, turn taking, confidence building, fine motor skills interest /motivation building, drawing people, and increasing fine motor interest. Skills are taught by arts and crafts activities that are sensory based in order to increase fun and attention!
