Research
Interactive Metronome (IM) is an advanced brain-based treatment program designed to promote and enhance brain performance.

Clients learn to:
  • focus and attend for longer periods of time,
  • increase physical endurance and stamina,
  • filter out internal and external distractions,
  • improve ability to monitor mental and physical actions as they are occurring, and
  • progressively improve performance.

Interactive Metronome (IM) is based on the theories of temporal processing and is supported by tightly controlled randomized clinical research. IM is used with both children and adults, and is currently being used in many public and private schools, therapy centers, athletic training facilities, rehabilitation facilities and music schools throughout the country.

Why Interactive Metronome at Learning Charms?
Learning Charms is offering Interactive Metronome because it is high tech and offers quick progress for a higher level of clients that we work with. Although it has been successfully used for a number of diagnosis, we are using it to facilitate "brain training" for clients that are already successful but want to improve processing speed, sports related timing, attention, and overall performance in academic, home, and sports environments.  In additon, we often recommend Interactive Metronome for children with ADD, ADHD, Auditory processing disorder, learning disabilities, Dyslexia, and Dyspraxia.

Scheduling
An initial IM screening is necessary to determine if a client has potential in the IM program.  An IM screening takes 5-10 minutes and can be scheduled by contacting Learning Charms directly.

The Interactive Metronome training program usually consists of either 12 or 15 forty five minute to  one-hour private sessions with a Certified IM Practitioner which must be completed in  3-5 weeks. This program is successful only with intensive training over a short period of time.  Some individuals will need more than 15 sessions if they have unusually impaired rhythm and timing skills. We recognize that this program requires a significant commitment of time and energy.

Commitment to complete the course is necessary in order to ensure results.

Regular Pricing
Session length  will be determined upon IM screening.  Session price is the same as individual occupational therapy. Clients will receive pre, mid and post  test results that will measure progress. Clients will perform IM training using occupational therapist- led functional activities to give the appropriate challenge.

One time $75.00 IM set up fee (non refundable) plus:

12 sessions of 45 minutes each: $1134.00  total

OR

15 sessions of 45 minutes each:  $1417.50 total

**Most younger children (ages 6-10 yearsold ) require 60 minutes of time to complete I.M. per visit, so that they can have some "rest" breaks.

Insurance
IM  may be covered under your health insurance group plan if it is part of an occupational therapy treatment plan.  Contact your insurance plan for verification.  If you plan to submit for insurance coverage, the child must also receive an OT evaluation (or have an OT evaluation within the past year)  along with a current treatment plan.

Flexible Spending accounts will usually cover the cost of occupational therapy services, including IM.

Sports Package:  $999.00

Looking for that edge for soccer, baseball, softball, golf, tennis, swimming, or other sport?   Let us help get  your IM score from an "above average" to "exceptional" or "superior".   This is a private pay only package, with no treatment plan, and is only for those who are athletes (ages 12 and up) who are serious about improving their game.

The package includes long form test (pre and post), set up fee, and 12 additional sessions at 30 minutes each. Initial screening is free.  Full payment due after screening in order to make appointments.

Email from parent whose middle schooler completed the Interactive Metronome (I.M.) Home program through Learning Charms:

"Update on Jxxxx:  After completing 25+ sessions of IM, he has shown great improvement. He is in all Honors classes and made straight A's this 9 weeks (last year he made B's).  His teachers report that they are having no problems with him at ALL in class.  He is getting along with peers and even working well in groups. His standardized test scores jumped 10 points in math to the 97th percentile and 5 point in reading to the 90th percentile from the Spring to the Fall.  He also scored in the 99th percentile in science. He comes home and starts on his homework right away without being told and finishes quickly. Because he is getting his work done, Jxxxx  has had time to play on a recreational football team. It is so nice that he has time to play and be a kid.  Last year, he worked from the time he got home until the time he went to bed on homework.  We didn't have any time for extracurricular activities. The final benefit was that we were able to reduce his dosage of medication. Thanks for being willing to do the IM Home with him.  It had a significant impact on him!!!"
