The Learning Charms Story
I created Learning Charms to enrich the learning of children by offering unique and creative strategies for cognitive, sensory, and motor development.
I worked in the public school setting for twelve years working with preschoolers-high school aged kids. Per state laws, occupational therapists could only work with children who had significant delays or moderate academic needs. I found that there were no services to help the kids that would benefit from general handwriting instruction, or brief motor "tutoring" to help them excel.
It seemed unfair to keep the knowledge and skills of an O.T. from kids just because they were academically on target. So I created a place where these kids can have the same resources that will aid them to continue their journey as a successful student, athlete, and friend.
Around 2014 Learning Charms began offering occupational therapy services at preschools and charter schools that had a large percentage of low income and at risk children. "Children In Bloom" was created for the PreK population and then in 2021 it was renamed "Learning Charms' Foundation". Learning Charms' Foundation is a pending 501(c)(3) organization that will continue to expand our reach to this population .
I feel like I can connect with families and teachers because I've probably walked in their shoes at some point. I've been through the terrible twos, had the spirited little boy that would rather climb out the window than walk through the door, disagreed with my spouse on how to handle discipline, dealt with melt downs, wondered how a ten minute worksheet can take two hours for my child to complete, and argued with my teenager.
I hope you'll find the information on the website useful to your journey.
